Part B:

negro boy.jpg

I believe this picture represents the Great Depression era of American history extermely well. My reasoning for this is because the boy looks exhausted, weak, and worried. This period of history was just that for the people living through it. During the Great Depression, since the economy was plummeting, many people were at a loss for jobs. The boy's family could not even have enough money to put food on the table. He looks hungry and sick. A majority of lynchings also ocurred during this depression. Negroes were in search of the same civil rights that everybody should have. For voicing their opinions, their lives would be put into danger. This picture clearly shows the the fighting for rights is starting to take a toll on not only this little boy and his family, but also everyone else around them.

cocacola_shack.jpg
1. I see a run down Coca- Cola shack that looks like it's out of business. I also see a large field in te background.
2. The physical description looks like a country type setting in the deep south. The roads look like dirt roads and the grass looks dead. Overall, the whole area just looks run down.
3. What I noticed first was the large Coca- Cola sign on the front of the building and the damaged wooden fence next to the building.
4. I think this photo was made in the late 1930's to the early to mid 1940's.
5. Some things that are missing from this picture include cars, people, and animals in the field.
6. I someone made this today, the picture would be in color, there would be more life in the picture and the picture may be edited a bit.

4. I think this picture was made to show that blacks and whites can work together and shouldn't be seperated just because of the color of their skin.
5. I learned from this photo that balcks and whites could eventually work together.
6. I someone made this picture today, there would be more machinery and advanced technology.
7. I don't know the names of these people or the name of the factory.

Part 3:
Part A:
Reading about these people during the Great Depression taught me about just how difficult it was to live back then. In the first interview I read, Mrs. Elizabeth E. Miller talked about how she lived after her husband left her.
She discussed how difficult it was to find food after not having any money. She talked about hunting for hogs in great detail. She had to feed her family and she would do anything it took to get them fed. The next interview I read was about Bernice. She had to participate and provide rent- parties to make money. She thought it was a disgrace to her name, but she needed money. Next, I read about Mrs. Mayme Reese. She was a housewife from the Great Depression. Her story included the life of working for a family. She did this because it was the only job she could get. Mrs. Marie Haggerty was also a maid, but she was far from ordinary. She made beds and found a five dollar bill. She was honest to the family, but they thought she was strange and would have kept it. The last interview was about a man named Jim Cole. He worked in the butcher section of the meat dpt. He did not enjoy killing animals for a living, but he did what he had to do. This related to the Great Depression becuase they were all people that were going through difficult financial times and needed a job to provide for them and theri families.
